ETIAS: What You Need to Know

What is ETIAS?

European Travel Information and Authorization System - electronic travel authorization for visa-exempt travelers to Europe.

When does it start?

ETIAS is expected to be mandatory from mid-2025 for all visa-exempt travelers.

How much does it cost?

€7 for adults (18-70), free for minors and seniors.

How long is it valid?

3 years or until your passport expires, whichever comes first.

Passport Requirements

Validity

Must be valid for at least 3 months beyond your planned departure from the Schengen area.

Issue Date

At least 2 blank pages for entry/exit stamps.

Condition

No damage, stains, or torn pages.

Important Reminder

  • • Check your passport validity NOW – renewals can take weeks.
  • • Apply for ETIAS at least 72 hours before departure.

Schengen 90/180 Rule

You can stay in the Schengen Area for:

90 days within any 180-day period

This means if you stay 90 days, you must leave and wait 90 days before returning. The clock resets based on a rolling 180-day window, not calendar dates.
